Our Scottsdale chiropractor uses a hands-on approach to caring for our patients. If you are new to chiropractic care, you may be surprised by the individual attention you receive. You are not just a number at Secrest Family Chiropractic, PC. We consider you part of our family and want you to have the best life possible. Our hands-on approach extends into the Graston Technique.
Benefits of the Graston Technique
Dr. Secrest, DC uses stainless steel tools as an extension of his hands. He rubs the tool over tender areas to discover where tension or scar tissue is located. If you have tension or adhesions from previous injuries, Dr. Secrest, DC feels a change in the way the tool moves. For example, in a non-injured area, the tool will slide effortlessly over your muscles. If we encounter an injury, the tool may stick or stutter as Dr. Secrest, DC glides it across the muscle fibers. This occurs because injured fibers do not always repair in the same direction as healthy fibers. Our goal, is to break up this scar tissue or adhesion to restore your flexibility and reduce your pain.
You will be asked to warm up the affected area and we instruct you through exercises to increase circulation to the tight areas. Then, Dr. Secrest, DC uses the tool in a quick motion to alleviate the scar tissue and muscle tension. You will not feel any pain, but depending on the strength of the scar tissue, you may experience slight bruising after the treatment. Some tools require the use of one hand and Dr. Secrest, DC will provide precision pressure to the areas. Other tools we use require two hands and resemble the feeling of a rolling pin sliding down your muscles. Each tool is designed to reduce scar tissue and speed your recovery time.
