Hip Pain

Hip pain is a familiar complaint in the United States and can be caused by many problems. The accurate location of your pain can offer valuable indicators of the underlying issue. Hip pain can also be triggered by ailments and conditions in other regions of your body, like your lower back. Your body is joined together by cushioning muscles secured to the bones by solid cords referred to as tendons. Most of the time, hip pain can be remedied at home by the use of simple treatments.

However, hip pain can be tenacious to treat if it’s occurred for more than two weeks. This longevity calls for the services of a medical practitioner. Pinpointing the actual cause of hip pain is challenging because of the various underlying issues that may be causing it. A chiropractor can accurately diagnose the cause of your hip pain and get you back to living a pain-free life.

If you’re hip hurts, don’t try to tough it out. Contact Secrest Family Chiropractic, serving Scottsdale, AZ, and the surrounding community. We will personally design a chiropractic and wellness program using highly-effective techniques that are non-invasive and targeted at your pain.

Causes of Hip Pain

Several underlying conditions can cause hip pain. Here are just a few of them:

  • Arthritis: Arthritis is the most widespread trigger of hip pain in women, particularly osteoarthritis. This condition causes the ball and socket to start wearing out. Arthritis pain is felt in front of your thigh or groin due to stiffness or swelling in the joint.
  • Bursitis/tendonitis: Special fluid-filled sacs provide cushion and protection to the joints. When these sacs situated in the hips are inflamed, they can cause pain and stiffness when moving. Inflammation of the tendons can cause pain and swelling (tendonitis).
  • Hip fractures: As one ages, the bones become feeble and brittle. Weak bones are susceptible to breaking during a fall.
  • Hip labral tear: The labrum is a network of cartilage-like tissues that cushion the outer rim of your hip socket. In some instances, overuse or an injury to your hip can trigger a rupture of your labrum, causing dull or sharp anterior hip pain that gets aggravated with weight-bearing.
  • Bone cancer: Though bone cancer is rare, one of the symptoms is hip pain. At first, the pain is most pronounced at night, but as the cancer advances, the pain may become more persistent.
  • Dysplasia or impingement: This condition is when the bony parts of the joint do not develop into the correct shape required for the hip to function effectively. This condition is primarily experienced in infants, but it can manifest itself during adulthood.
